Here's A Quick Post To Make You Happy!

Hello everyone.  Here is an adorable picture of my cat sticking her head in a cup of water to drink.  Hope it brightens your day(or gets a laugh out of you-- yip-de-do-yay!).  If you are already happy then I am glad.  One should never remain unhappy for too long.  A quote I just made up probably said by millions already, but oh well.  Here's the photo:

Science, the world and the universe

After reading a science book, one learns a lot about the universe.  For homework, I was assigned to read two sections of this one chapter in my science book about the solar system.  Apparently all of the gas giants (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus,Neptune) have rings(Saturn's are just the most impressive and well-known).  They are also less dense but have greater gravity than all of the inner planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars).  Pluto is a dwarf planet related to the Kuiper Belt (a belt made mainly of chunks of ice and objects similar in composition and size to Pluto) and has been classified as a dwarf planet since 2006.  Sorry Clyde Tombaugh (astronomer guy who discovered Pluto).  Eris, one of the dwarf planets in the Kuiper Belt is slightly larger than Pluto and most likely led to Pluto being called a dwarf planet.  The credit for finding Eris goes to astronomer Mike Brown.  Well enough about the solar system, I am probably boring you (sorry).  I just find the universe so interesting.  I plan to study it in college (along with the beautiful subjects of art, music and writing).

Another thing I learned is that apparently oil is still seeping from the gulf and that there was practically no point in cleaning it up if there is still a problem (well we did get rid of some oil luckily).  Speaking of the Earth, I hope everyone had a wonderful Earth Day, and did their best to conserve and educate others about the environment, as we should every day.   I do my best to conserve, and I continue to get better with wasting less water.  Going back to the oil spill, if you are interested in learning more about what is till happening then  read an article by going to    http://articles.cnn.com/2011-04-20/us/gulf.oil.environment.recap_1_oil-spill-gulf-oil-puzzles-scientists?_s=PM:US or    http://www.nola.com/outdoors/index.ssf/2011/0/damages_costs_from_the_bp_oil.html

There are many other articles on the oil spill as well (along with numerous videos and pictures).  It is very unfortunate that something such as this was a man-made problem.  The effect of this will be catastrophic (and already has been).  I seriously hope that humans figure out ways to harness renewable resources of energy or at least make sure that what they have will not break down in any way.  I hope we can figure out not only the Gulf Oil Spill, but also problems in Japan, which were cause by a natural event (a 9.0 earthquake that resulted in a tsunami due to the fact that Japan in on a subduction zone that caused the nuclear problems in their country). There are so many articles on Japan, and you should definitely pick up a Time or Newsweek magazine on Japan, if you are interested in learning more about Japan.  Oh, the bad things in life.  Well, maybe people will learn to respect the planet more, now that these things have happened. Hope for Japan

Hi everyone.  As most know, a 9.0 earthquake happened on March 11, 2011 (with a massive tsunami happening after) near the east coast of Honshu, Japan.  This earthquake was devastating, even for a very earthquake prepared country such as Japan.  To help Japan, my school has been selling bracelets and shirts.  The proceeds go to the Red Cross.  I am glad that we are doing something to help Japan, because they really need help.  Whether you know or not, earthquakes are still continuing to happen there (mainly off the coast or near the coast of Honshu, Japan).  I hope that the radiation problem gets fixed so that the lives of people in Japan can be without the threat of cancer (radiation causes cancer). They already have to deal with the devastation of buildings and farmland.  Hopefully more people will donate money to Japan.  In a few days I am going to put up another post on Japan with pictures of damage and the science behind why they had this huge earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011.  Before I go, I wish to tell all the people of Japan that I am very sorry to whomever had loved ones (or people they knew) that died.  It is terrible that something this catastrophic had to happen--blame it on plate tectonics and our core.  More science later.  I hope everyone has a good night or day, and that the people of Japan get the help they need.


P.S. If they come collecting money for Japan (again at school), I will be sure to donate.  It is always great to help the world in times of need.        

I am back again... with lots to say

Sorry I haven't been on in forever.  I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day.  Anyway, I am going to talk about what is going on in the Middle East.  I don't know if you have been keeping up with the news, but I have.  There have many countries who have protested, and the majority of the issues have been dealt with peacefully.  I hope Libya gets better, because war is potentially on the verge if something doesn't change soon.  Well, all I know is that there is a bit of chaos there at the moment (not good for the people who live there).  Muammar Gaddafi actually said "They love me... They will die to protect me, my people." Source: Time Magazine.  If they loved you, then there wouldn't be protests.  Now, some people are in support of him, however I do not think the majority of the people are.  By the way, I have been keeping up with what has been going on in the world mainly through Time Magazine.  Not only do they have great photos, they also have really interesting articles about all sorts of specific topics within generalized topics (like an article related to something in science, or in the world).  Now I know why my parents have subscribed to them for a long time.  So, be sure to check them out.  It is just really interesting to me, and I am so glad that so many of the protests have have been peaceful.  Well, on to the next topic.

At my school, the drama department is putting on a musical review called 100 Years of Broadway!  I am in it, which I think is pretty cool, (okay enough with bragging).  We are performing at the end of March, and I think it should be a lot of fun, as it already has been.  Let me know if anyone wants specific details.  Mom, you can talk to me about it (at home).  So, anyway, it would be great if anyone could come.  That would be totally awesome!  Yay.  Okay, well I know that you probably live far away from where I do (maybe not), but  I will go on to something else now.

New Year and Questions

I just wanted to say that I hope everyone had a great, awesome New Year's holiday.  If it was blah, then I am sorry.  Anyway, now my brother and girlfriend are here.  I was doing some homework because they are gone and decided to take a break.  In Fine Arts class, I have to find information out about Antoine-Denis Chaudet.  I have been researching and are wondering if anyone actually has some good information about him.  I know when he was born, where he lived, went to school, who he was married to, and when he died.  I was wondering if anyone knew any other information about him.  I am kind of confused about whether or not he submitted thins to the Salon in Paris.  If anyone knows,will you please post a comment and a source of information?  Thanks so much!  Well, time to get back to other homework.  Oh, before I forget, I need to post pictures still and will do so soon.  Also, for the past two as we have had beautiful sunsets.  Tonight had purples, a bit of pink and blue.  The combination was very nice looking, especially in the way the clouds looked(in their form).  Yesterday's sunset was amazing.  The clouds were very puffy and unusual looking, in the most beautiful shade of peachy pink.  It covered the whole sky from where I was looking and was simply gorgeous.  I wish I could have taken pictures, however my camera got exhausted right before I saw the sunset.  That's okay though, because it was just as fun  truly to enjoy the experience, instead of just snapping photos.  Well I hope this blog post wasn't utterly boring.  Anyway, I must go back to my homework.  Hope everyone has a wonderful, great rest or the day or night.     

Running, Skiing,Sports-Oh my!

You know that great feeling you get after you have just run a lot or exercised?  Well, today my dad and I ran and walked over at my school's track.  While we did so, there was a soccer game going on.  While the game was probably free, it was an extra bonus.  I was amazed that I was able to run eight laps after I hadn't run in a while.  Anyway, I hope that I will get to run or walk again tomorrow, because I want to get a bit stronger before my dad and I go skiing on Saturday.  If you haven't tried skiing yet, you should, because it is such a great sport and it's like going to an amusement or water park in that while waiting in line it is very easy to strike up a conversation with others around you that you do not know. The experiences I have had are always great and often times I have found that if I ended up getting on a lift with others we talk the whole way as if we are friends.  In that way, skiing is a social sport.  Well enough about sports.  I am probably boring you.  Sorry!  I just wanted to let everyone know because I felt like it.  If we remember to take the camera with us when we go skiing, then I will post up the pictures that we took.  Hope everyone has a great rest of the day or night and Happy Almost New Year!

Helping Out Others and Getting Together with Family

Sorry for the long title.  As I said in my previous post, I am going to tell everyone about my Christmas and what I did on Christmas day.  In the morning, I woke up and saw that I had received a present from Santa.  When I opened the present, I found that they were beautiful bright multicolored socks.  They are awesome looking.  Well, enough about my presents.

Later in the day, (as in noon), we arrived at a place to help out the homeless. Since we are Jewish and don't celebrate Christmas, we decided to help out others.  We worked from 12 to 4:30 pm, and throughout the majority of the time I spent working there, I had a lot of fun.  It was great not only because my parents and I got to help the homeless, but because we also got to see my cousin Linnie, who also helped.  We helped the homeless, by serving food and drinks.  Many of the people took food with them when they left.  It was sad to see that they needed so much help, but I am very glad they got help.  Besides just food, everyone got the opportunity to take a picture with Santa.  Some people also received items such as clothing, games and toys, toiletry supplies and blankets.  While I was working, I met many new people, some of whom came to get help.  It is always so great to attend an event like this, because not only do you get a sense of pride by helping others, you also get to meet many new people (and see others you have previously met).  At one point I took a break from working.  I had been clearing trash from tables, filling people 's requests for food and filling people's cups with punch.  I had  needed a short break.  I got to talking with two ladies who came to get food.  It was great to meet them because they told me about what they did (in terms of creative things) and I got to tell them about my mom being a jeweler.  I also got to learn about one of the lady's relatives who is about my age that seems very interesting.  It is great that I got to attend this kind  of event, because if I hadn't I would never have met these people.  When I went back to working, many people asked me for food.  Everyone really appreciated my work, especially these two men.  They gave me a candy cane and each of them gave me a hug as they left.  It was so nice of them to do this, especially since they were the ones that came to get help.  Oh, before I forget, I wanted to let everyone know that I did not actually really get any of the music stuck in my head as I thought I would have.  The music there was great.  Also, while the music was playing, there was this one slightly elderly man who danced the majority of the time. He had a walker with him and at times he would use it.  The best part was that he had these amazingly cool, funky, and also funny looking hats and costumes.  He made everyone laugh and was very nice when you talked to him.  He was there the whole time, waiting for a friend who sadly never did show up.  Alright, time for a new paragraph.  Sorry this one was so incredibly long.  

After we helped out, my cousin, my parents and I went out to eat a nice restaurant.  After we ate, we waled around the area before going to see a movie.  While we were walking, I saw a man on the street who had one of our blankets wrapped around him while he sat under a building rooftop in the slight rain.  I wanted to help him, but my money was fora book.  Also, it is not always the best idea to give homeless people money, because many a time they use it for cigarettes or alcohol. Sad I know, but the truth.  This is why we must help them by giving supplies and also teaching them ways of living.  I would like to create a nonprofit organization when I get older, because there are so many people in the world who need help and I have ideas on how to help them  Well, after we walked, we went to see the movie Country Strong.  While it wasn't the greatest movie, it had good singing.  The ending was sad.  After the movie, I bought partly with my dad's contribution of money, a nice blank journal that I can use for the drawing.  Yesterday, I went with my mom on a walk to Hallmark and bought a beautiful journal for writing in.  Well that is about it.  May I have luck with starting a nonprofit organization when I am older and  today may I have fun when I go to LACMA (an art museum) for Fine Arts.  Bye for now.  I hope everyone has a marvelous, wonderful rest of the day.
